If there is one thing that you can change today, let it be your perception. Your perception can change your day from one of misery and stress to happiness and ease. It’s all in how you look at things. I’m sure you heard the question: Is the glass half empty or half full? This is a fine example of how you perceive things to be. But the question is… what do you see?
Although many of life’s circumstances may seem harder to weigh, they’re not. Today, take a few moments of quiet before you start your day. I usually take 10 – 20 minutes and think about yesterday and what circumstances I could have looked at differently, more positively. After all, you made it through the day, right? That’s a good start! If you are a teacher, your zoom meeting is glitchy and stresses you out because your wifi is terrible – What do you do? Do you get annoyed while teaching and stress out every morning before class because you know the end result? Or do you simply find a better location in your home for a stronger signal? Maybe you have tried that, and it continues to glitch. So why not make this an opportunity to find a better video conferencing program or a better web-learning program for the students when the system glitches. Take every stressful moment in your life, and make it positive. It sure sounds easy because it is. It’s as simple as flipping a switch. Turn every negative into a positive.
You lost your job? OK. While you are collecting severance or unemployment, take the time to find your purpose in life. Maybe you lost that job, so you could find yourself. Are you stressed out because you have no time to clean this week because you are a taxi cab driver for your kids? Oh well, take it as an opportunity to spend more time in the car talking to your kids while they are still home. No time to clean vs. more time with kids – it’s a no brainer! Every negative opportunity can be flipped to a positive with perception.
Online learning versus live learning. Oooh… this is a good one for me, because I too, needed a perception switch on this one. I complained about online learning because I thought it would be terrible, but I like it in actuality. I get to spend more time home with the kids when I work from home. I thought the kids would lose that socialization, but with online school ending earlier than usual, they get to spend more time with their friends than before. On the other end, I have one child in LIVE learning, and I couldn’t be happier for him. He’s excelling in school, and it has made a tremendous impact on his educational drive. So depending on how you look at things could make all the difference in your life.
If you want to be happier in life, than flip the switch. Just like that!
Do you know that happier people tend to be healthier? So why jeopardize your health over something that you have no control over? Just make the negative thought a positive one. Here is an exercise… I will state a negative thought, and you will convert it to a positive. Be creative and make it fun.
- You spilled coffee all over your clothes, while walking out the door for work
- You hit traffic on the way to work
- You have to work on Christmas morning
- The state is in another lockdown
- You were passed up for the promotion
- Your car won’t start
- Your son forgot his school computer, at home and he needs it
- You have no time to clean the house, and your family is coming over
- You were just fired
- Your so-called enemy has been promoted before you
- You have nothing to make for dinner, because you had no time to food shop
- You missed the bus
- Starbucks espresso machine is not working
See how easy it is, to change a negative into a positive. It’s all in your perception. Positive thoughts, positive energy, positive YOU!
What does the bible say about perception and positivity…
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20
