I was listening to a podcast yesterday by Denzel Washington, who inspires both the young and old. He said, “to get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.” That one line had such an impact on me, it was like a light bulb went off. If you want to run a marathon, then start training for it. Are you one of those people, who want to lose weight, but never stick to a diet? How about your desire to live a fulfilling, happy life? Human life is incredible and even more so, when we put our minds to something we want.
What do you want out of your life? Go grab a notebook, and I’ll wait. (…waiting). Write down one thing that you really want. Make a plan. This could be something that you always wanted, and perhaps you tried to achieve it in the past but failed. Today is your day to begin that journey of fulfillment. Think about how you tried to achieve this goal in the past and write it down. Rather than reflecting on why your plan didn’t work, change the plan. Accomplish your goal doing something that you never did. Let’s say your goal is to earn a college degree, but family life, time and money are holding you back. But are they truly holding you back? You need to figure out a way to achieve this goal, by doing something you never did. Maybe that means finding an online school, or one close to home. Maybe it means hiring a nanny when you are in school or prepping all of the family meals on the weekend. This is your life, and you need to find a way to accomplish your goals. Achieving goals leads not only to a fulfilling life but a happier one.
This seems easy, right? Well, it is when you put your mind to it. Do not give up on goals, work towards accomplishing them. Try something that you never did, to achieve that goal. Do you know Albert Einstein failed one thousand times before he created the lightbulb? Keep on trying something a little different, until you find a way. Start today! Get a blank notebook and write down your goal. Every day, write down what you did to achieve that goal. You WILL achieve it! Do something that you never did, do not give up, and focus on the outcome. Remember, we can do all things through Christ.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Phillipians 4:13
