This morning I put on Christmas music to start my day. The first song that I heard was “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid. This song made a slight change in my focus today, as I was going to write about the gift of time, however, I felt that the gift of life would be much more compelling. Here are the lyrics.
Do They Know it’s Christmas?
It’s Christmastime, there’s no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade. And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime. But say a prayer, pray for the other ones.
At Christmastime it’s hard, but when you’re having fun. There’s a world outside your window
And it’s a world of dread and fear. Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you. And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life
Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it’s Christmastime at all?
Here’s to you

After listening to this song, where they sing, Thank God it’s them instead of you. It made me sad. All I could think about is why them and not me? Some people are born into such unfortunate situations to no fault of their own. Could you for one minute, only imagine being born into a small hut, with no furniture other than maybe a dirty mattress and only eating small portions of rice, if at all any food? Could you imagine being born into a country where disease is all around, and there are no available medical facilities? What if that was the life you were born into? For one minute, think about it, and let’s pray for others who are born into such unfortunate situations. Today, please help those in need because ‘it was them instead of you’. If the role was reversed, wouldn’t you want the same help. Let’s help children born into such unfortunate situations today. Let’s give them the ‘gift of life’. Please donate today.
