Today is a Gift: Thanksgiving 2020

After completing the 30-Day Thanksgiving Day Challenge, we realize how many things we should all be thankful for each day. Many wonderful things in our life are overlooked, tossed aside, or under-appreciated because we are too busy to recognize our gifts. Today, on Thanksgiving, one of the most cherished holidays for many, let’s take the time to enjoy all of our blessings. Start the day off, right!

Roast the turkey, boil the turnips, mash the potatoes, top the sweet potatoes, and bake the apple pie. We spend so much time cooking, cleaning, and prepping for Thanksgiving, that we often forget to enjoy the day. This Thanksgiving in our ‘new normal’ will be a bit different for many, maybe a smaller gathering, maybe less food, but overall, it’s a day to give thanks for our many blessings.

Native People of North America have held ceremonies to give thanks for successful harvests, for the hope of a good growing season in the early spring, and for other good fortune such as the birth of a child. Giving thanks was, and still is, the primary reason for ceremonies or celebrations.” So let’s reflect on our 30-Day Thanksgiving Challenge Chart, and today – add another thing you are personally thankful for.

I am personally thankful for TODAY! One of my favorite sayings is, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift.” Today, I will live in the moment and enjoy every second of the day, watching the parade and football with my family. Cooking with my daughter, face-timing my extended family, and appreciating my time and blessings here on earth. As Tim McGraw sings, “live like you were dying.” Why? Because when people live every day like it is their last, they never let a second go by without purpose. Make every day, hour, minute, and second matter. Put love, compassion, and thought into everything you do, say, and hear. Now give thanks today, and live your life with purpose.

What does the bible teach us about giving thanks…

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 1 Chronicles 16:34
