The Bonds of Friendship

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. We ALL need friends. If there is one bit of advice I would give everyone, it is time with your friends. I found this blog most fitting today because Sunday I spent my morning with my friends, who I have the privilege of calling my besties after 30 years. We are each other’s shoulder to cry on or the friends who fix our crowns. We’ve seen each other grow from youthful teens to mature, gray-haired adults. We have experienced so many of life’s important moments together – Friday night football games, graduations, vacations, first careers, engagements, marriages, divorces, buying first homes, the birth of our children, death of parents, kids communions, kids graduations, and so many memories shared over the years. I can’t even begin to tell you the blessings that God has given each of us, with friends.

If you have friends either near or far, perhaps you lost connection over the years or are still actively involved in each other’s lives; today, reach out to your friend or friends and express your gratitude. Make time for lunch, grab a drink, or pick up the phone. The best thing about having friends is you can always pick up where you left off. Good friends are always there for you; they are your rock. Friends know when you are down, and when you need a ‘pick me up’, they know when you want to go out, or if you want time alone. I like to think of friends as the gift that keeps on giving.

When God made friends, he knew what he was doing. Each of us is different, with unique qualities, yet together we are perfect. Friendship brings laughter, sadness, anger, joy, peace, inspiration, fun, gratitude, and fear, but most importantly, it brings LOVE. Friends are family, our chosen family – so go out and embrace them. Always make time for friends.

As with every blog post, what does the bible say about friendship?

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

This blog post is dedicated to my best friends, the ones who ALWAYS have fix my crown, and I will always have theirs. I love every one of you whole-heartedly; life wouldn’t be the same without you.
